Question to the European Commission: Is the Commission
aware that Kenya's anti-corruption chief John Githongo has
resigned due to his inability to break the looting and
corruption culture in Kenyan politics? Has the Commission
noticed that when Sir Edward Clay, the British Ambassador to
Kenya, compiled a dossier of 20 Kenyan looting scandals, the
Kenyan Government did not investigate them and dismiss those
involved, but briefed the media against Sir Edward and
threatened civil servants bringing further scandals to light
with charges of treason, which in Kenya carries the death
penalty?
Does the Commission agree that unless a government can meet
transparency standards, any aid sent to that country is highly
unlikely to reach those who need it? Is the Commission
prepared to follow the example of Britain and Germany by
suspending aid until the Kenyan Government stops hushing up
corruption cases and brings its corrupt officials to justice?
