South East MEP Condemns EU Constitution Funding

Following today's decision by the Budgets Committee of the European Parliament to make €8 million available of taxpayer's money to promote the EU Constitution, Kent MEP Nirj Deva, said:

"The decision to use over €8 million of taxpayer's money to promote the 'benefits' of the EU Constitution is a disgrace.

“No one believes that this funding is going to be used to explain the detail of the European Constitution in an objective way.

“I fear that it will be a propaganda exercise advocating only the pro-Constitution view in complete violation of the wishes of my constituents in Kent.

"Conservative MEPs voted against this funding in Committee today for the very reason that we do not believe the campaign will be anything other than biased and incomplete."
