In a move
which has been described by South East of England MEP Nirj Deva as
“laughable”, the European Commission has today (Thursday) launched an
unprecedented lawsuit against European Union member states for violation
of rules governing single currency membership.
Commenting on the legal action, the MEP said:
“This is yet another EU fudge.
“I fail to see how the Brussels-based bureaucrats in the European
Commission and Council of Ministers can expect to be taken seriously by my
constituents in the South East of England when, as this law suit has
proved, Brussels is a town filled with confrontation, not co-operation.
“If the different bodies that make up the European Union are not willing
to surrender their vanity in order to avoid gridlock, why on earth should
the United Kingdom be expected to surrender control of its currency?”.
