End of
Beef Ban: South East Beef
as Safe as Any In the World
Nirj Deva, Conservative Euro MP for South East England, today joined
a BBQ in the European Parliament in Strasbourg to celebrate the
lifting of the export ban on British beef. It has been 10 long years
since British beef has been allowed on the menu.
Nirj Deva said:
"Many farmers in the South East have been waiting for this day for a
decade. They are finally on an equal footing again. British beef is
a high quality product and much sought after. It is as safe as any
other beef in the world.
"The British government must now help our farmers market their beef
abroad. We need to see a concerted and determined effort by
ministers and the Meat and Livestock Commission to restore British
beef to its rightful place in international markets. We showcased
British beef in the European Parliament today so that MEPs will go
back to their home nation with the message that British beef is
back."
"EU experts have finally approved the total lifting of the ban on
exports of British beef and this is extremely welcome and overdue
news."
"The export ban on meat from younger cattle was lifted seven years
ago but the red tape was so onerous that British farmers lost a huge
chunk of their market share. Now we are on an equal footing again.
"Experts agree that British beef is safe. It is also a high quality
product and much sought after."
