Calls for "Whole Truth" in Ulster Peace Process |
Nirj Deva,
Member of the European Parliament for South East England has today
(Tuesday) joined his colleagues from Northern Ireland, James
Nicholson MEP (Ulster Unionist) and Jim Allister MEP (Democratic
Unionist in calling for the “whole truth” to be told with regards to
the past atrocities in Northern Ireland.
Echoing
the comments of Ulster MEP Jim Allister who described a Sinn Fein
sponsored event in the European Parliament which used the tag-line
“peace must be built on truth” as “brazen hypocrisy”, the Catholic
MEP said:
“Truth and reconciliation are the way forward in Ulster. At a time
when all parties are coming together, including Ian Paisley, to call
for peace, meetings such as this where the whole truth is not
displayed and described is appalling. How can people reconcile and
apologise if one side is in denial? And why is this meeting being
held now? As if it wasn’t bad enough that the IRA’s bedfellow’s Sinn
Fein now have two Members of the European Parliament sitting in
Brussels, they now seem intent on smearing the memories of the
murdered Royal Ulster Constabulary officers whose only crime was the
defence of the realm.
“It seems that whilst Gerry Adams, Martin McGuiness and their
terrorist-supporting colleagues are more than happy to play
professional politics to pacify the political establishment, people
appear to have forgotten about the terrorist atrocities committed by
IRA at Enniskillen and Omagh to name but a few and assistance
afforded to worldwide terror groups such as the Basque separatists
ETA and Palestinian Liberation Organisation.
“If peace is to be built in Ulster the whole truth is important for
reconciliation it is crucial that Sinn Fein/IRA and their
lieutenants of evil accept responsibility for their campaign of
murder and surrender their arms so that the six counties can, once
again, be at peace”. |
